ROVENNA TO BRIENNO – (VARIANT “LOW”)

A beautiful walk from Rovenna, a scenic hamlet of Cernobbio, to Brienno, ca 11.3 km that can be comfortably covered by dividing them into two sections: from Rovenna to Carate Urio and from Carate Urio to Brienno, walking on the “low” route, that is, at an average elevation of ca 300 m asl.

1 section: ROVENNA – SANTA MARTA

(km 4.5 – estimated time 1:30 hours)

  • Minimum altitude Santa Marta (mt. 296) – maximum altitude Rovenna (mt. 476)
  • Starting on foot from Rovenna (cemetery parking lot), walk along the “Sentee di Sort” to the hamlet of Casarico.
  • in Casarico from the Little Chapel go down about 50 m and at the first crossroads turn left (the descent leads instead to the village and the lake-navigation pier).
  • Continuing on we arrive at the hamlet Tosnacco (we recommend the short climb leading from a small traffic light on the left- ca 500 mt from Casarico to walk the streets of the hamlet).
  • above the square continue on Via Verde following the vignettes on the ground all the way to Carate Urio locality Santa Marta.

Very pleasant tinerary without demanding elevation changes.

return is possible on the same route or by public transportation (bus – boat getting off at Urio pier to Cernobbio)

(km. 6.8 – estimated time 2:00 hours)

  • maximum altitude (mt 482) – minimum altitude (mt.221)
  • Carate parking lot (church of Santa Marta)
  • the route is indicated by green vignette markings until Laglio locality Soldino where you turn left onto Via Val Crotto and from here the route is indicated by green/blue vignettes.
  • the first section to Laglio retraces the Via Verde between the hamlets of the village, past the state highway via underpass, the route connects the upper hamlets and then continues on a path to Brienno with beautiful panoramic views.

ROVENNA TO BRIENNO – (VARIANT “HIGH”)

However, if you want to try your hand at a more challenging route, you can take the “high” variant, which differs from the other only in the first section, allowing you to reach Carate Urio, through the mountain. This variant tends to lengthen the route, so in the end the miles traveled will be 15.5.
